UK tripe retailers have recorded their best ever quarterly sales in almost 70 years. The third quarter 2022 figures show that sales have declined by just 0.008% – a result which Tripe Marketing Board chairman Sir Norman Wrassle said was “virtually static” and which vindicated his strategy to position tripe as ‘the perfect austerity foodstuff’.
Speaking earlier today, Sir Norman said he was confident that this month could see the first ever actual increase in sales since meat was taken off ration in 1954. “The last seven decades have certainly been challenging for tripe. Tripe was one of the few meats that was never rationed, so naturally when rationing ended the public were tempted by other cuts. It’s been a long haul, but we really think we can turn the corner in the run up to Christmas this year,” he said.
