Tripe Marketing Board chairman Sir Norman Wrassle today hailed the fundraising efforts of the TMB’s supporters as a ‘huge and magnificent success’ after the funds raised were delivered to the Yorkshire food banks nominated in December 2022.

The Welcome Centre in Huddersfield and the Food Aware CIC in South Yorkshire were each awarded £2078 from royalties amassed from the sale of Forgotten Yorkshire, a TMB publication which had been reduced by Amazon in the run-up to Christmas.

“Both of these community-based enterprises do so much valuable work to support those in food poverty and we are delighted to have been able to help in some small way,” Sir Norman said.

The TMB was caught by surprise when Amazon again re-introduced the 90% discount on Forgotten Yorkshire at the end of March 2023.  In the 10 days before the offer ended on 4 April, an additional £2,436 was raised for Food Aware.

The awards follow donations of £10,150 to the We Care food bank in Deptford, £1250 to the Eaglesham Street Larder in Glasgow and £250 to the Your Pet food bank in Yorkshire, all of which were completed last month.

“We have also made additional donations of £453 to the We Care food bank and £703 to the Food Aware CIC from funds raised in January 2023, as well as a discretionary payment of £250 to Food Bank for Whitby,” Sir Norman said.

Supporters have also contributed to a Crowdfunder to create a small fund to support Yorkshire Food Banks.  Almost £550 remains in this, to be distributed over the coming weeks.

This brings the total raised to date to a staggering £20,197 – but it’s not over yet. The TMB has committed to donate £2 for each copy of Forgotten Yorkshire purchased either from its website (where it is currently on offer at £2) or from Amazon.

Sir Norman confirmed that further donations to food banks in Yorkshire would be announced in due course. “Sadly, we appear to be in a situation where the need for food banks is increasing.  What we have organised is just a tiny drop in the ocean, but we hope it helps.  I want to thank every single supporter, friend, family member and board member for the help they gave in raising this money.  We are fortunate to be one of the best-supported meat-based marketing boards in the world,” he said.
